Portrait of Dipl.-Ing. Markoto Sajidman

Markoto Sajidman holds a degree in mechanical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), with a focus on measurement and control engineering. His diploma thesis addressed fuzzy-logic-based control of mechanical drive systems.

From 1993 to 2000 he worked as a research engineer and project leader at a German applied-research institute, developing intelligent control systems for a manufacturer of quartz-glass tubes and optical-fiber preforms — from initial concept through to deployment in live production. Since 2000 he has practiced as an independent engineer and continues to work with the institute as a freelance associate to this day.

Current focus

As a freelance associate of the institute, Markoto Sajidman is the lead controls and software engineer for the production automation of a global manufacturer of quartz-glass tubes and optical-fiber preforms, with production sites in the USA and Germany. His control software runs on all eight glass-drawing towers of the main production site.

01 · Process development

Next-generation preform processes

Development and full automation of novel drawing processes for hollow-core and multicore fiber preforms, taken from first trial to production-ready, recipe-based automation.

02 · Modernization

Control platform modernization

Migration of the control platform from legacy VXI instrumentation to PLC and HMI systems, operating-system upgrades on all control computers, and integration with the client's IoT platform via OPC UA and MQTT — without interrupting production.

03 · Monitoring & data

Monitoring, safety and data

Automated detection of oscillations, disturbances and anomalies with protective control responses; safety shutdowns on crack and sensor faults; part-number-based KPI databases and automated post-run reporting.

04 · Engineering practice

Engineering practice and continuity

Git-based development with code review and re-simulation of historical production data before every release; source-code documentation, training material and knowledge transfer to the client's engineering team.

Track record

30+ years in control engineering & industrial software
8 production lines running control software developed and maintained by him
3 patents granted in Europe, the USA, and Japan for an industrial materials-processing technology
National research award for an innovative hybrid control concept, deployed at production sites across three countries
Numerous publications peer-reviewed papers and conference contributions on intelligent process control
